Bank Holiday on Monday 31st August.

Wage updates from HMRC this week  - one led to increased hb/ctr entitlement and the other two both led to o/p's ( one had returned to work after being furloughed but not informed us)..

Another claim dealt with was to amend the claim household and the LHA assessment as the claimants son had been sentenced to prison. I noticed that there was a childcare costs amount on the claim from 2018 so I wrote out to confirm the current amount of CCC. The claimant rang on my day off & left a message to say wished to complain about this matter as she thought everything had been resolved earlier this year. On checking notepad entries from early 2020 I could see that a £2k hb o/p was created as CCC had been left on for claimants twin children even though they had started school. The CCC I was querying were for the twin's older sibling & related to an Out of School Club she attended in the school holidays. I rang the clmnt and she confirmed that this child last attended this Out of School Club in Summer 2019. There was now a further o/p - I didn't tell her this. I discussed the case with our Appeals Officer & we decided to also write off this further o/p. Only £76 this time, not £2k.

I also had a claim where a Council Tenant has moved out due to harassment from his neighbours. He is in temporary homeless accommodation but his council tenancy is still open. Regulations permit the award of HB for both properties.

The major thing this week was utilising knowledge acquired from past experience regarding when I can pay HB on two homes & who to speak to to authorise making an o/p irrecoverable and how to go about coding this correctly.

  1. Benefit on two homes is one of those areas that doesn't often come up (other than unavoidable liability) so it's important to read up when such cases arise. Well done
