This week almost exclusively involved registering new claims for CTR received via a claim for UC and then assessing CTR claims received last month where the UC award info is now available. Again there are some who don't qualify but might when we get their 2nd monthly UC award breakdown.
Nothing new learned. Another joint tenant claim cropped up that again had been processed incorrectly. A son had moved in with his elderly mother in a council property in 2016. He was made a joint tenant in October 2019 so that he would be able to succeed the tenancy when mum passed away. The original rent account was ended and a new one created in joint names. we should have assessed mum on 50% liability from that point and invited the son to claim hb for the other half. Instead we added him to mum's claim as a non-dep. She received attendance allowance so there was no non-dep deduction. She has now passed away so I have invited the son to claim hb for the full 100% rent liability.
This implications of the rent account ending had been totally missed. This shows how we need to take care & think carefully about joint tenant claims as per last weeks blog.
Well spotted re the joint tenant claim. Sometimes it can be difficult to identify these if you haven't dealt with the claim from the start. Well done
