15/03/20 to 21/03/20

I checked for current private pension monthly entitlement for several claims that cropped up last week where the claimants had reached state pension age. Some didn't have any private pensions. For some the pensions had not uprated at all. Others required the pension amount on Northgate to be increased.

Updated wages for one claim following a routine VEP task. She appeared to have a high wage every 5-6 months. The wage details we were using to calculate her entitlement were based on the average of one normal wage and one high wage. I took a better, fairer average & updated our records.

Registered several new ctr claims recvd via customers claim for UC. Awaiting UC award info before can calculate entitlement.

Managed to resolve a query that had been ongoing since January. I had recvd a ctr claim via UC for Person A with Person B named as a non-dep. I wrote to ask for non-dep details but never recvd a response. This week I recvd a ctr claim via UC for Person B which stated he has a joint tenancy. I rang him to confirm this. I was able to register his new claim for 50% council tax liability. I removed him as a non-dep on Person A's claim and amended that also to 50% council tax liability.

I had to ring another customer for clarification as the automatic ATLAS items switched her ptnr from being ptnr on the claim to being the claimant & created a correspondence address outside of Kirklees. She confirmed he had moved outside of Kirklees but she remained at the claim address so I had to undo what the ATLAS had done & inform billing to amend the ctax a/c.

Updated UC award info for claims following receipt of ATLAS items. Some no longer had entitlement so I issued our standard non-qualifier letter. Some now qualified that previously had no entitlement. These will receive updated council tax bills. Some had had no significant change in their UC award so I did not update their income as per council policy.

  1. How did you decide on how to average the wages (from paragraph 2 of the above)? This could potentially meet S8.2 (refer to processes). If the high wage is only every 5-6 months, do you think it is fair and accurate to average 1 normal wage and 1 high wage? I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Please consider revising the structure of future blogs to 3 paragraphs (1) summary of work for the week (2) anything particular notes about the work, any training needs, anything you've learnt etc (3) how notes in (2) can be applied in the future, or if needs identified, what you have done to fill those gaps in knowledge i.e. approach TL for training etc.

    1. The wage amount we had been using was exactly as you describe, i.e an average of one normal wage and one high wage. I calculated a new average wage based on one high wage & three normal wages. I felt this was fair as the claimant appears to be paid a higher wage 2-3 times a year.
I never even thought about it meeting S8.2. I didn't refer to any training notes or guidance manual. It was just what I felt was right.
I'll structure my blogs as you describe from now on ! Previously I just looked back at what I'd done in chronological order....
